STYLISH sprinter Stirling Grove used to fear his racing rivals - but you would not know it now.

"He was a very timid horse and used to run on fear when he first raced," trainer Richard Jolly said at Morphettville Parks yesterday.
"He was desperate to get in front of everything early on, but he's learning to settle and relax."
The Mossman two-year-old was four lengths in front of the field at the finish of the Group 3 SA Sire's Produce Stakes (1400m) yesterday, with jockey Chad Lever having an armchair ride.

Here’s five to follow
with Kevvy’s cash
My search was limited to 25 trainers. I left out such up-and
-comers
as Danny O’Brien, Chris Waller and Mick Price because
their recent
success means their runners are starting to go
around at prices similar
to those of the Waterhouses and
Freedmans of theworld.
My results were interesting.
Some trainers
certainly weren’t as successful picked out five
trainers to carry thebulk of our taxpayer handout.
Sure, some
people will think that using this money for betting is
morally
wrong but thinkabout it. Whicheveroperator you choose to
invest with will have staff with feelings and families as well.

Very Discreet recorded her third consecutive stakes win when running out the half-length winner of the Listed Crown Promenade at Flemington on Thursday 5/11/09.
A series of barrier incidents delayed the start of the second race and despite being loaded and unloaded a number of times Very Discreet ($6) lost no focus, jumping well and maintaining a positive position. Dwayne Dunn riding Very Discreet tracked up the middle of the famous straight course as Dunn gradually asked her to quicken the tempo of the 1100m event. When he asked her to quicken over the final furlong she found more to finish the race off strongly and defeat Seeking Attention.
Richard said"We have just taken her along quietly, placing her in the right races, and I think she is going to be an even better mare next year," “the intention is to spell her and then I’ll set her for the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes next year in Adelaide.”
Very Discreet has won five of her eight starts and Thursday's victory made it three wins in a row. At her only other two runs this spring she had Listed race success in the Wylie Stakes (1100m) and Durbridge Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide.

Very Discreet is a four-year-old mare and was bred by David Peacock being out of his Group 3 The win takes Very Discreet's prizemoney to almost $270,000 from just the eight race starts. Dermody Stakes winning Euclase mare She’s Discreet.

PROBLEM child I'm Discreet wasn't kidding around when she walked in for an impressive six-length debut victory at Morphettville on Saturday.

But a goat may have played an important role in her early racetrack success.

Trainer Richard Jolly engaged Gundy the goat in a bid to prevent I'm Discreet box walking, a habit that could have cost her valuable energy before she even got to the barriers.

The unlikely pair no longer share lodgings but, judging by the ease or the two-year-old's debut win, the experiment seems to have worked wonders.

I'm Discreet was backed in from $3.30 to $3 on course ahead of her first public appearance. "I put the goat in the yard with I'm Discreet this preparation and they seemed to get along fine," Jolly said.
