Summery turns up Cup heat

"It's a bit of a bonus to win over 1200m with her as she's a mile and a half horse really," Jolly said.

"She was a Class 1 horse last time in and has made giant strides. I really rate her."

The daughter of Blevic defeated a field of capable sprinters when settling close to the speed, set by Meltrofox, and then finishing by far the strongest of the six runners.

Reigning premiership jockey Chad Lever, who claimed the first two races on the card, was equally impressed.

"I had to squeeze her up to keep in touch early, but then she travelled really well." Lever said.

"She'd had enough on the line, but you'd expect that first-up."Summery, who started the rank outsider at $20, took her record to five wins with three placings from just 13 starts.

The mare is unbeaten on wet ground and the track was certainly yielding for her race, with sprays of water visible all the way around.

Favourite Reconcentrate never travelled kindly for replacement jockey Mark Pegus, who took over from Simon Price after he injured a rib on Tuesday.

Jolly, who is enjoying his best start to a season with 15 winners, will take a traditional path to the Adelaide Cup in March with Summery that will include tackling the Port Cup over 2250m at Morphettville Parks next February.

"She might have just a couple more runs before Christmas, but I won't be rushing her up in journey," Jolly added.
